Impact

One of the primary roles of the Little KITES members is to support the IT Co-ordinator of the school, who is a subject teacher designated to oversee the ICT activities in their respective school. This includes the proper upkeeping of all ICT equipment in schools such as Laptops, Projectors as well as basic trouble shooting. They also undertake documentation of various programs in platforms such as School Wiki. (Eg- Creation of School Magazines etc). Further, they also ensure proper safe usage of Broadband internet connectivity provided in the school, including periodic updation of passwords and preventing cyber threats. The Little KITEs members train their fellow students in ICT tools and technologies, to keep them updated with latest trends. This not only ensures the thorough reach of ICT activities to each student, but also boost the overall productivity of the school. In order to ensure proper awareness of ICT, it was essential to make mothers also to understand the basic of Cyber safety, usage of Internet, identification and prevention of Fake News etc. The Little KITES members trained as many as 4 lakh Mothers this year in Cyber Safety, creating a huge social impact. They also provided installation of FOSS based Operating System to public during Free Software day celebrations. A specific programme Young Innovators Program (YIP) was also launched in schools in association with K-DISC, for which the Little KITES units provided the technical assistance.

Students of LK unit in Al Farookhia Higher Secondary School, Cheranallur in Ernakulam District set up a ‘help desk’ on the campus, where anyone could walk in and seek help to pay their electricity/water bills, update details on their Aadhaar and other ID cards, and get assistance for any other IT-related issue. The event was received very well and saw many community members benefitting from the initiative. The students plan to hold more such events and also conduct awareness sessions in the community about Cybersecurity.

UNICEF conducted a State-wide study on the impact of Little KITEs IT Clubs in Kerala and the Report has mentioned Little KITEs as a Global model of education
